• The Highway Code should warn drivers about the dangers of strong winds for high-sided vehicles, the Freight Transport Association has told the Department of Transport.
"Strong winds can be a real danger to high-sided vehicles and we will be including a warning in our FTA drivers' handbook," says traffic and planning manager Don McIntyre.
The Dip is revising the Highway Code for the first time since 1978, and the rrA warns that drivers should also watch for the effects of turbulence when overtaking or being overtaken by large vehicles.
It suggests that the advice not to use hand-held microphones on the move should be kept for all drivers. The DTp suggests that bus, coach, taxi and private hire car drivers should be exempt.
