Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NOISE RESTRICTIONS

• New legislation to limit the amount of noise in workshops and factories came a step nearer last week when the European Council of Ministers agreed a new directive on protection of workers from noise.

By January 1 1990 the UK government will have to implement legislation that extends and specifies more clearly the legal obligations that already exist.

If the daily noise exposure of workers exceeds 90dB(A), employers will have to reduce noise levels in workplaces and the time workers spend in noisy areas, wherever this can be done at reasonable cost. Workers exposed to noise above this level will have to be provided with, and use, ear protection.
