Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ford of Britain has appointed two men to replace chairman and managing director, Sam Toy at the head of the company.

Derek Barron, currently a director and vice-president of Ford of Brazil, will become chairman of Ford UK on June 1.

On the same day, Roger Humm, Ford's director of sales, will become managing director.

Both have worked for the company for a considerable length of time; Barron for 35 years, Humm for 26.

It is expected that Barron will take responsibility for the company's broad corporate strategy, while Humm is given the responsibility for day-today running of the company, including sales. Both will see the company through the formation of lveco Ford Truck on July 1.

men to the posts currently held by Toy is a return to Ford company practice before the time of Sir Terence Beckett. chairman and managing director from 1976 until 1980.

• Mike Hammes, the vicepresident of Ford Trucks in

Europe, is moving to USA car maker Chrysler and in the wake of the recent Iveco Ford venture, no replacement has been announced.

Hammes, vice president of trucks in Europe since July 1983, and managing director of Ford Mexico since 1980, is moving on to head Chrysler's new international operations.

There is unlikely to be a new vice president, owing to the scaling down of UK manufacturing responsibilities with the Iveco Ford "joint merger". A new vice-president would effectively just be in charge of sales and marketing of Ford trucks in mainland Europe.
