M Hugh Stewart, the Road Haulage Association's executive officer responsible for commercial and international affairs, died last weekend aged 50.
He had been with the RHA for six years and was compelled to retire earlier this year owing to ill health.
His successor, John Bowen, has already taken up the post in London, having returned from a road haulage consultancy post with the Saudi Seaports Authority in Saudi Arabia.
Before that, Bowen was an advisor to the Lybian Arab Republic's chemical industries company, based in Tripoli.
