WE record with regret the death of Sir Harry Ricardo, at the age of 89. Sir Harry was recognized as one of the leading authorities in the field of high-speed internal combustion engines, especially with regard to indirect-injection systems for diesel engines, and his influence is still felt today through Ricardo and Co Engineers (1927) Ltd, the company he founded.
Sir Harry became engaged in engine research and design after serving as a consulting engineer with the Air Ministry. He was knighted in 1948.
