AN APPEAL by Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd against the decision of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners to refuse it permission to operate feeder services for its tours from parts of South Yorkshire was upheld by the Secretary of State for the Environment in a written decision last week. The Minister rejected his inspector's recommendation that the appeal be dismissed and granted WA variations of the con ditions attached to the road service licences in respect of excursions and tours originating at Leeds and Hull respectively.
The main purpose of the WA application was to enable passengers from Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, Scarborough and Hull, to join its existing tours run from Leeds. The main objector was Sheffield United Tours.
In his decision, the Minister states that he was impressed with the evidence of demand for WA's services and was reluctant that numbers of passengers should be obliged to make inconvenient journeys to join the tour of their choice. The Minister did however follow the recommendation of his inspector and rule that the authorisation of an interchange at Woodall service station should be remitted to the Commission for further consideration.
