A SAVING of more than 1m has been made over 10 years by the Post Office Telecommunications department by restricting engine power output on its 50,000-vehicle fleet. Instead of using over 32m gallons of petrol by using manufac turers' standard vehicles, only 29m gallons have been used over the period because carburettors which restrict the flow of fuel have been fitted.
A study which the Post Office has just completed shows that the department's Om a year fuel bill, which represents nearly a quarter of its total fleet operating cost, could be reduced by 10 per cent. The vehicles are mobile workshops needed to maintain the telecommunications services and high performance is not required.
