WHEN an application by Mr. R.. J. Raikes-May, 18 The Peak, Purton, Wilts, Was called before Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, "at Bristol on . Monday, Mr. Nelson stated that the applicant had seen fit to write a letter to his M.P., who had passed it to the Ministry of Transport who, in error, had forwarded the letter to him.

THE leading oil companies have dropped the wholesale price of fuel by If d. and the dealers' retail margin by id. a gallon. Petrol and oil fuel bought from the pump is now 10. cheaper, and in bulk, lid.

• Dealers had Id added to their margin when fuel supplies were curtailed last year. They had been . seeking an increase before, and now that supplies are free again the rise has only . partially been cancelled.

RAIL IMPROVEMENTS . WELCOMED

AT the annual general meeting of the Institute of Traffic Administration in Nottingham last week, Lord Merrivale of Walkhampton, president, welcomed the improvements being made on the railways. These would . result in sonic traffic being attracted from the roads, with consequent easing of the congestion problem. Nevertheless, it was of vital importance that the .
