THREE new models with a capacity of 14 tons are announced today by Commer Cars, Ltd„ Luton. Features include a heavy-duty front axle, • stronger rear springs and larger tyres. They supersede the 25-cwt. range.
A choice of wheelbase is offered on the two Superpoise normal-control models-either 9 ft. 4 in.. or 10 ft. 4 in. -and both have gross weight ratings of 3 tons 8. cwt. They are available as a chassis and scuttle or chassis and cab, whilst the. 9-ft 4-in.-wheelbase 4-in.-wheelbase model may also be obtained in van form: Each can be powered by a fourcylindered . petrol or • oil engine of Rootes manufacture, Similar, power-unit alternatives .apply to the forward-control ,van, which now has a gross. weight rating of 3 Ions 12 cwt. Wheelbase is 10ft. 3 in., whilst the standard van body has a capacity of over 300 Cu. ft.
All petrol-engined 11-tonners may be ordered with full-length porouschromium cylinder bores as a production option, and 8.25-16-in. (8-ply) tyres are offered at an extra charge on both 'Superpoise and forward-control models. • The Commer 10-ton forward-control 'tractor -has been uprated by 24 cwt. to a p2rmissible gross weight of 16.4 tons'. This increase covers all applications including automatic and S.A.E./ S.M.M.T. .fifth-wheel couplings. Price is. not affected.
Prices of the Superpoise i-ton models have been increased by amounts ranging from £30 1 1 s. 6d. to £38 11s. 6d., including purchase tax.
