AT the Ford Convention, held this week at the White City, London, an extended-wheelbase Thames Trader 7-ton chassis with Duple 41-seat coach body was unexpectedly exhibited. It is a standard 13-ft, 6-in.-wheelbase oilengined chassis lengthened by 4 ft. 2 in., and carries a 30-ft.-long body. The complete vehicle weighs 5 tons 21 cwt. unladen and has 8.25-20-in. (12-ply) tyres. The quiet, smooth running of the engine was noteworthy.

Another feature of the convention was the removal and replacement by three men of an oil engine from one of the new chassis in a total time of 9 minutes 49 seconds. They were members of the office technical staff. and not mechanics.

DUNLOP DISC BRAKES ON Wednesday the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., announced that large-scale production of disc-brake assemblies had been started at their Foleshill rim and wheel factory. The company stated that the use of these brakes was to be extended to goods and passenger vehicles, tractors, railway rolling stock and industrial machines.

DEATH OF MR. R. H. ROSS ilfriE regret to record the death of MR. VV ROBERT HAROLD Ross, managing director of Challands, Ross and Co., Ltd. He was 74. He joined the corn-. pany, then Messrs. Challands and Jackson, in Nottingham, in 1906, and pioneered their engineering activities.
