Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A S from Monday last, the substantial PA alterations to the rates of pay for Aand 13-licence drivers contained in the Notice of Proposal R.H.(61) have become effective by the issue of Wages Regulation (Road Haulage) Order R.H.(62).

The statutory minimum remuneration of regular road haulage workers whose home depot is in the London area, for the main categories of vehicles, is as follows: 1-5 tons, 163s.; 5-10 tons, 170s.; 10-15 tons, 176s.; 15-18 Ions, 183s.; over 18 tons, 192s.

For drivers in Grade 1 areas and engaged on long-distance services the rates of pay are 5s. per week less than the London scale, whilst those for Grade 2 are 9s. per week Iess.

The particulars contained in the schedule of R.H.(62) are also contained in the Schedule to the Wages Regulation (Road Haulage) Order, 1957, copies of which may be obtained from the Stationery Office.

(Details of R.H.(61) were given in The Commercial Motor, March 1.) C LICENCES FOR VISITING VEHICLES

WHEN a vehicle or trailer is brought VV temporarily into Great Britain. an application for a C licence should be made to the Licensing Authority for the area where the vehicle lands. This would be required by the Motor Vehicles (International Circulation) Order, 1957, which will come into effect on a date to be notified in the London Gazette.

The Order would also enable regulations to be made to exempt vehicles or trailers brought temporarily into Great Britain from the lighting rules.

Persons resident outside the United Kingdom who hold a driving licence would be allowed to drive in this country for a year vehicles they are permitted to drive at home. This dispensation would allow certain such persons to drive passenger vehicleswithout a British public service vehicle driving licence, and persons over 18 years old to drive heavy vehicles.

The Order is published by the Stationery Office at 9d. It gives effect to certain provisions of the Convention on Road Traffic, 1949. and other international agreements.

STILL MORE WAGE CLAIMS

ACLAIM has now been submitted to the bus companies for a substantiaf increase in wages for their white-collar staffs. It has been presented simultaneously by the National and Local Government Officers Association, National Union of Railwaymen and Transport and General Workers' Union to the individual companies.

This, the Unions claim, was because the employers had steadfastly declined to negotiate on a group basis at national level.
