Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A woman whose husband was killed in a road accident with an articulated truck has won £250,000 damages in the High Court.

Ann Patricia Church of Parsons Heath, Colchester in Essex, sued both the owners and the driver of the truck involved after her husband, Alan Michael Church, was killed instantly in a crash on 28 November 1983.

Mrs Church alleged that the artic pulled out onto the Al2 at Marks Tey in Essex without warning. Lorry owners A E Drain Transport of Creek Road, Deptford in London and driver Kevin Bond both admitted liability.

The settlement will give Mrs Church £220,000. Her eldest children, Katherine, 25, and Patrick, 21, will receive £5,000 each, and her two younger children £10,000 each.

The accident happened early in the morning as Church was driving along the Al2.

The court was told that the truck pulled out of a side road blocking Church's route forward and left him no time to avoid smashing into the side of the vehicle.
