KEN HOWE, for 25 years a Yorkshire lynchpin of the RHA, has left his neat footprint on history by being the first regional executive to join head office in London. He has succeeded Mike Lees, who was for some 15 years one of the best liked Road Transport Industry Training Board men until he joined the association 15 months ago. A combination of angina and travel difficulties has compelled Mike to take early retirement on doctor's orders.
Ken's migration is one of the results of the formation of the new North-Eastern District.
There has been a tendency for regional officers to regard head office staff as pampered. If Ken ever had such an illusion,' his new duties will quickly have dispelled it. But to be spared daily eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation with members demanding instant deliverance from their own folly must seem like the life of Riley.
