In a Parliamentary reply, he has told a London Conservative MP, Peter Bottomley, that a public inquiry should be held "so that all the implications" of the ban can be fully explored.
According to Mr Ridley, the GLC's latest proposals, which would ban lorries from designated roads within the M25 between 9pm and 7am and from lunchtime Saturday to lam Monday still fall short of bringing worthwhile environmental benefits without putting jobs and businesses at risk.
