Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

plated at 12.75 tons; and which has a ratchet handbrake. Some time ago I was given to understand that in 1972 the plating regulations would be altered regarding the second braking system. If this is so, what will my vehicle be plated at ?

A You have confused plating with braking regulations. The tlivo aspects are quite different and do not inter-relate.

The position on braking is that pre-1968 vehicles will have to meet post-1968 vehicle standards after January 1 1973.

This means that your vehicle will have to have a primary braking circuit capable of 50 per cent retardation, a secondary circuit capable of achieving 25 per cent efficiency and a hand-brake which will hold the fully laden vehicle on a 1 in 6.25 gradient hill.

Your local Ford dealer will tell you exactly what system your vehicle has and what changes will need to be made, if any. When you take the vehicle for its first annual test after January 11973, the DoE examiners will require the vehicle to meet the standards indicated on the roller brake tester,
