• Dumpers, excavators, bulldozers, concrete-mixer vehicles, cranes, elevators, earth-moving equipment, fork-lift trucks and tractive units are well represented among plant and machinery displayed at the Scottish Building and Public Works Exhibition held this week at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, and was opened on Tuesday by Lady Tweedsmuir, the Minister of State for the Scottish Office.
Some 130 companies are represented at the exhibition and Fodens Ltd created a great deal of interest with dump trucks produced for the construction industry. The 20-i cu yd capacity vehicle with a 24-ton payload is now fitted with rubber helper springs. These are of new design and incorporate frame brackets with floating shackles. Fodens says this has been done to increase the capacity of the bearing areas at this point and to give better attachment between spring brackets and the frame for increased loads. A notable feature of this vehicle is that it carries a payload of up to 54,740Ib. There has been equal interest in Fodens' 27-ton, 20i cu yd capacity dump truck. The rear axle is based on the company's latest type pressed steel double-reduction unit to which ribs have been added to deal with the load carried.

strating its demountable system with series of bodies designed for use by di+ construction industry and local govern ment departments. The main exhibit i a complete vehicle with all demount ing and tipping systems in full workini condition.
Alex Purves (Machine Traders) Ltd, o Edinburgh, showed a range of trailer manufactured by C and H Trailers, o Bingley, which included a 12 ton payloal deck model., a 3i ton plant trailer besides 9 ton payload tri-axle model with a: enlarged platform with rear loading.
Tollbridge Engineering Ltd, of Sheffielc had on its stand, in addition to its existin range of tilting trailers, a new standar plant trailer designed for carrying sit vehicles.
