• It was very helpful to the Traffic Commissioners when applicant and objector held discussions with a view to reaching an amicable agreement before the opposed application was heard in court.

This was said by the Chairman of the North Western Traffic Commissioners, Mr C. R. Hodgson, in Manchester on Tuesday, when he granted an amended application by W. Robinson and Sons Tours Ltd to • vary the conditions of an existing excursion and tours licence and introduce a new feeder service.

The applicant company had originally been seeking to extend the duration of its three day tour of Scotland to one of three, four or live days and to introduce a feeder service from Manchester to Preston with picking no points in the Blackburn and Lancaster areas.

The Court heard that Ribble Motor Services Ltd which also operate extended tours to Scotland had withdrawn its objection to the application after reaching an agreement with Robinson and Sons Ltd.

Mr J. Backhouse, representing the applicant company, told the Commissioners that on the variation application the agreement reached was that Robinson and Sons should only apply to operate tours of three and four days duration and that these would be confined to a Sunday departure. .Referring to the feeder service, which would be covered by a new excursion and tours licence, Mr Backhouse said that as Ribble Motor Services was already licensed to pick up passengers in Lancaster his clients would omit this picking-up point from next season's brochure. However, if passengers did request to be picked up in Lancaster this service would be made available to them.

For the objectors, Mr R. 0. Sutton said that Ribble Motor Services realized that there was a demand for the extended tour to Scotland and that Robinson and Sons could produce evidence to prove this.
