Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

W. L. Foden, D. C. Foden and S. P. Twemlow become joint managing directors of Fodens Ltd from April 1, following the retirement of J. E. Foden and E. Twemlow as managing directors. Mr J. E. Foden and Mr E. Twemlow, each of whom has been with the company for more than 45 years, became directors in 1940 and joint managing directors (together with R. G. Foden who retired last year) in 1951. The two retiring managing directors will continue to serve on the board as non-executive directors.

Derek L. Fytche, deputy general manager of Midland Red since 1969, is to head the express services division, and Robert F. Bushrod, at present general managerof Eastern National, will head the • tours division of the Central Activities Group of the NBC, of which the formation was recently announced, Mr Fytche began his career in the bus industry when he joined Crosville in 1944; he was appointed traffic manager of North Western in 1959, and moved to a similar position with Midland Red in 1965. Mr Bushrod began as a cadet with the National Omnibus and Transport Co; he rose to general manager of Southern Vectis, moving to a similar position with Lincolnshire in 1957 and to Eastern National in 1960.

R. S. Green, G. B. Whitehead, H. E. Meyer and J. Van Schijndel have been appointed to the board of Ferrymasters Ltd. Mr Green is executive director of UK operations, based at Felixstowe; Mr Whitehead executive director of marketing and administration, based at Altrincham ; and Mr Meyer and Mr Schijndel directors based respectively at Berchem, Belgium, and Vlaardingen, Hoiland.

Robert S. Leighton, a Scottish chartered accountant, is joining William Nuttall Transport Ltd as deputy managing director. Mr Leighton is with Tate and Lyle Transport Ltd and Silver Roadways Ltd where he combines the role of group financial controller with that of planning manager. Before joining the Tate and Lyle group he specialised in transport subjects with the Swis4/American management consultant company Knight Wegenstein Ltd.

Lord Cooper, 63, general secretary of the General and Municipal Workers' Union, has been appointed a part-time member of the National Bus Company for three years at £1000 a year.

J. L. Dickinson, managing director of The Skefko Ball Bearing Co Ltd, Luton, has been appointed a director of Skeftools Ltd, Dunstable, a member of the recently formed S KF tools division.

H. N. N. Wemyss, general works manager for the past two years, has been appointed customer services controller of Vandervell Products Ltd.

E. Larman has been appointed Road-Link Ltd sales director (CM March 17) ; unfortunately, owing to a printer's error his name was mis-spelled as Jarman.

OBITUARY We record with regret the death of D. M. Smith.

Mr Smith, 82, had been a director of Intertruck Limited since its foundation in 1964, Previously Mr Smith was for 20 years managing director of Adrolic Engineering Co. Ltd. His son, Graeme J. B. Smith, is managing director of I ntertruck Ltd.
