• A survey into the problems facing the road freight industry is being carried out by the DoE, with the full support of the FTA and RHA.
This review is expected to provide important information on operations and operating costs and will be of particular significance if Britain joins the EEC.
The last survey of operating costs of public hauliers was carried out more than six years ago and the information obtained was published in "Operating Costs in Road Freight Transport".
The current study will update much of this information and will also seek to identify changes in types of operation in recent years by different categories of operator as well as on the movement of operators into and out of the industry. It will cover operators representing all sections of the road freight industry. In particular, information will be collected, on a sample basis, from public hauliers, ownaccount operators, new entrants into the industry and operators leaving the industry.
The first questionnaires are being sent out this week and returns are requested by April 17.
