IN rebuilding an 4tkinson six-wheeled 19-ton tipper. J. H.
Sides and floor were built up from corrugated aluminium sections riveted together. Aluminium plate was used only for gussets and for the tail gate, which was stiffened by extrusions. The aluminium floor is of stout construction and has high resistance to corrosion and abrasive wear.
The vehicle is operated by the Portsmouth, Gosport and Bognor Regis gas undertaking to transport Durham gas coal, and the increased carrying capacity has resulted in a reduction in the number of journeys formerly made. The 17-ft. body has a capacity of 18 cubic yds. All the materials used in the body were supplied by the Northern Aluminium Co., I.td., 13anlvury, B I 0
