a major transport employment survey which says 8% more hauliers will be taking on staff compared with industry as a whole.
Hauliers are still "holding on with their fingertips" although there are pockets of improvement, says the RHA's manager of employment affairs Rod Jenkins.
But temporary employment agencies are reporting an increase in recruitment, particularly from major logistics companies recruiting for food manufacturers and from general hauliers.
Paul Keyworth, manager at agency Yvonne Palmer in Nottingham, says May was the busiest month for three years: the agency now handles an average of 130-150 drivers at any one time compared with 80-90 a year ago.
Sharon Hill, manager of Newman Recruitment's Erdington, Birmingham branch, says temporary driver employment has "increased dramatically" since last year.
