The British Vehicle Rental Leasing Association (BVRLA) sa wants recognition from the TCs the efforts its members have m to ensure that trucks are not lea or rented to unlicensed operat

Jay Parmar, head of legal vices at the BVRLA says: 'We war

get a clear understanding of the important role that our industry is playing, and this should be upheld in any decision the its reach.

"The recent court decisions have made it clear there is no legal obligation to check licences but our members have taken on this voluntari y."

One thing that has particularly upset the BVIRLA is the tact that its members are being asked to check 0licences when the TAN21 search system is still problematic to use. Parmar adds: "If TAN21 is not running properly, how do they expect the industry to carry out diligent checks?

"All we ask is that they are given the necessary tools to do that."

The meeting, to be attended by senior TC Philip Brown and South Eastern and Metropolitan TC Christopher Heaps, comes on the back of the BVRLA's submission to the Better Regulation Task Force—the government body charged with assessing the accountability of TCs, amongst other things.

Parmar adds: "Our dealings with the Tes have sometimes demonstrated a lack of transparency and accountability with the industry."

TC Brown says the meeting, due in the next couple of weeks, should clarify everyone's position on the issue.
