• Anti-theft firm Eurowatch has launched GlabalMonitor, a new service that electronically informs freight companies if their goods are stolen while in the care of subcontractors.

This allows companies to spread information rapidly throughout their organisations, assess risks, prepare contingencies and quickly take action to limit damage to the business and its customers, says the company.

Peter Vyvyan-Robinson, director of Eurowatch says: "Most multinational companies use third-party carriers to move their goods across Europe and this works very effectively overall.

"But in the event of a crime, the long communication chain can delay information and the business implications quickly reaching the right people, " he adds.

Eurowatch uses telematics and Internet technologies to relay incident data to police. Within seconds of an incident being reported to Eurowatch, companies receive an electronic alert from GlobalMonitor via text message and e-mail.

Using an incident password, they can access an incident web page to see what occurred and where the stolen freight and vehicle is, as well as finding out what actions the parties involved are taking, including the police.
