Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A former transport manager of a company whose lorry killed six people when it ran out of control was appearing in court this week to answer manslaughter charges. Eric Preston, 46, faces six charges following the disaster at Sowerby Bridge, West Yorks. in September 1993.

Preston worked for the now defunct Fewston Transport of Skipton when its truck ran out of control on a mini-roundabout and ploughed into a BT van and a row of shops. Driver Derek Waterworth, van driver Peter Stott, and pedestrians Angela Rooke, Beryl Rose, Ann Crossley, and Crossley's two-year-old daughter Karen were all killed.

Preston, of Branch Road, Skipton, appeared earlier in the week before Halifax magistrates for an expected four-day committal hearing to decide if the case will be sent for trial at crown court.

He is on unconditional bail.
