THE Council of the Chartered Institute of Transport has elected LEN PAYNE, past president of the Freight Transport Association and a director of J. Sainsbury, president for the year commencing October 1, 1982. ROBERT BROOK, G. EDMUNDS, J. HIGGINS, G. MYERS, J. STUART and PETER THOMPSON have been elected vicepresidents. A. TOMSETT has been made honorary treasurer, while N. PAYNE and T. BEAGLEY have been elected honorary librarian and honorary secretary respectively. DAVID BENDING is to become general manager of National Welsh Omnibus Services, a National Bus Company subsidiary, at the end of July. He will carry on as general manager of South Wales Transport. Mr Bending takes over from PETER DAYK1N, who is leaving to take up special duties within the National Express Division of the NBC.

Eastern British Road Services has appointed ALAN SOPER to the position of area general manager based at the company's Melton Mowbray branch. He will also be responsible for the performance of the Eastern BRS branches at Northampton, Corby and Wellingborough.

HERBERT OXSPRING has taken over as chairman of the Kenning Motor Group plc, and JERRY FOSTER has assumed the role of managing director, after the death of DAVID KENNING. Mr Oxspring joined the company in 1951 on its internal audit staff and worked his way up to director in 1974. Mr Foster started work with the company in 1946 at its tyre depot. He was made a director in 1965.

Interlube Systems, a member of the Tecalemit Group Services, has promoted STAN HARRISON to commercial manager and director designate. He joined the Tecalemit Group in 1960 as a toolmaker and has since held various positions including tool design draghtsman, work study engineeer and personnel/training manager.

JOHN GLENNY takes over the post of UK applications engineer with OAF Diesel. He will be involved with stationary industrial applications, together with all marine installations.
