WITHIN the next two weeks new VI' claims are being lodged by the transport unions with the Road Haulage Wages Council: The unions say that these are not wage claims as such, but beyond stating that they concern "a couple of points" the T.G.W.U. on Wednesday would give no further information about the exact nature of the new demands.
It is likely that one item may be connected with the move towards a 40-hour week, which the T.G.W.U. has just achieved for its docker members and which on the road transport side has been closely linked with efforts to get the standard initial rate of overtime raised from time-and-a-quarter to time-and-ahalf.
