A LL applications to the West Midti land Licensing Authority for licences to legalize private-hire work to Blackpool illuminations and theatres will, The Commercial Motor is officially informed, be published in "Notices and Proceedings" and will be dealt with in the normal way. This statement scotches a rumour that applications would be heard without publication, Since Mr. W. P. James, West Midland Licensing Authority, gave his final warning to operators about private-hire work of doubtful legality (The Commercial Motor, July 10), one application for an excursion and tour licence had, up to a few days ago, been made. It relates to traffic formerly carried in contract carriages to Blackpool illuminations and theatres.

The applicant requested permission to pick up passengers anywhere within a given radius, and was advised to apply for specific picking-up points in the area: It has not been possible to confirm a report that an operator has applied for 150 picking-up points in the West Midlands.

At a recent meeting of the Road Passenger and Transport Association, which was attended by a number of non-member operators, most of the coach owners who ran vehicles to Blackpool and theatres on private hire said that they would apply for licences.
