MR. C. S. BOUGHTON, principal assistant architect (road transport) of the London Transport Executive, is to retire next month after over 41 years' service. In recent years, much of ins work was devoted to the construcfion of new garages and the conversion of tram depots. He joined the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., in 1911.

MR. J. M. GILROY and MR. A. E. Tommis have been awarded the two Henry Spurrier memorial scholarships for 1953-54. Mr. Gilroy will be enabled to take a one-year postgraduate course at Cambridge, and Mr. Tomkins to continue his studies for a degree at the London School of Economics.

MR. G. MACKENZIE JUNNER has been re-elected president of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers for 1953-54. The honorary advisory officers for next year will be Mi. H. E. DOBBS and Ma. J. W. TAYLER. MR, J. H. VINCENT again takes the honorary secretaryship and MR. A. H. .Dack. the position of honorary treasurer.

MR. IVAN M. WALLER has joined. the Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Co., Ltd., to assist, initially, with the development of Lockheed-Avery flexible pipes and selfsealing couplings. Formerly with RollsRoyce and Small and Parkes, Ltd., Mr. Waller vas awarded the George Stephenson research prize of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in 1950 for his paper on brakes.

MR. C. L. GUEST, chief industrial engineer of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has retired after 36 years' service.

MR. D. F. BROWN, managing director of Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co., Ltd., has left the board of the company.
