*Examples staged on stand No. 38. A 3-ton van and 30-cwt. van will be shown on Messrs. Horn's stand, and a 2-ton van on Messrs. Bayley' e stand.

Thornyerofts are showing three entirely new models for the first time. The smallest of these has a 16 h.p. four-cylinder monoblac engine, a cone clutch, three-speedand-reverse gearbox, and a wormdriven live back axle. It is a typ:> that has been evolved in consult tion with Messrs. Pickford, the we,l-known carriers, who are very tinge usets of Thornyeroft vehicles, and it gives promise of being one of the most isuccessful models which this well-known company has produced, and when one takes into consideration the successful experience which the Tbernyeroft Co. has had with its past models, this is saying a good deal.

A smart torpedo char-h-bancs oceupies a central position on one side of the stand, and a similar position on the opposite side is occupied by one of the most handsome petrol motor wagons in the Show. It is one of two built to the order of E. A. Turner and Co.,

of Kingston Hill, for WhitIn cad's Brewery. It is mounted on one of the Thornycroft subvention-type chassis, which obtained the War Department's certificate in the recent trials foe vehicles built to conform to its specification. The torpedo char4i-hanes, and the Whitbread wagon are built to a certain extent on the same lines. The engine, radiator, bonnet., clutch and gearbox arc all of the same size and type. The char-à-banes, however, is fitted with a worm-driven axle, whereas the subsiention wagon is a more sturdy model with a .double-reduction gear, the first reduction being through spur gear and the final drive through a pair of bevels. Piekfords have numerous Thornycroft vans in service, and are most enthusiastic in their praise of their performances.

The 30 h.p. tilt van is of a type that has been dealt with in these pages on many occasions, whilst the Colonial model has also received attention at our hands at some considerable length. Its outstanding features are, the tilting front axle, its very largediameter wheels, high load clearance, and the provi!-ion of means for fixing snow shies or paddles over the back wheel tires, A second subventitm machine, painted in the War Office regulation colours, and nrovided with a. canvas hood over the driver's seat, is also staged by Thornycrofts.
