Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

With the London low-emission zone going live imminently, some operators are desperate to find trucks that comply — while others don't seem to have cottoned on yet. Steve Banner reports.

any operators are looking for vehicles that will meet the requirements of the London low-emission zone (LEZ) which comes into force on 4 February, Nigel Sharp, who runs Daf dealership F&G Commercials' used truck operation in Barnsley, says: "In fact it's becoming a bit of a struggle to sell anything that isn't LEZcompliant. Even operators who don't regularly go to London are after LEZ-compatible trucks. just in case they get asked to take a load there."

However, some dealers report that many of their customers are still ignorant of the pending legislation. Andy Mackay of Manchester Daf dealership Chatfields warns: "As a consequence I think there'll be a big rush for LEZ trucks in a few weeks' time when reality dawns."

"We keep expecting to get a big influx of customers looking for LEZ-compliant vehicles, says Lee Smith of Essex independent dealership Hanbury Riverside. -It hasn't happened yet."

A peak in demand for trucks able to enter the London LEZ without attracting a penalty is likely to hit the residual values of those that cannot. "They're no good to anyone," says one Mercedes salesman."When customers try to part-exchange them we have to make it clear that we don't really want them." •
