CONCLUSION The results speak for themselves: use the more aerodynamic

design, and you will cu your fuel costs. Our tests reveal that as much as 8.6% could be saved at 85km/h pretty much the normal driving speed for operators running this type of trailers around the British motorway network.
Hauliers running double-deck trailers of both designs will already be aware of the fuel savings that aerodynamic sloping roofs can bring, although you lose on loadspace and payload. Those who don't, and who have been sceptical or unwilling to splash out that little extra, should now bE swayed towards those built with more aerodynamic designs.
A sloping-roof double-deck trailer costs more upfront but it is worth consideringth point at which an 8.6% fuel saving would pay for that initial outlay. With fuel rising to more than E1.10/lit (including VAT) the saving would be equivalent to a 9p/lit drop in the price of fuel, helping operators to protect what profit margins remain.
