New, slightly larger versions of Peugeot's Partner and Citroen's Berlingo
have been unveiled. Colin Barnett casts his eye over the details.
AFTER 11 YEARS and 3.2 million vehicles, PSA's Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner vans have evolved into the next generation.
As expected following the ntroduction of the smaller Citroen Vein°, Peugeot Bipper and Fiat Eiorino, and the upsizing of last /ear's new CiaoLri Dispatch, ?eugeot Partner and Fiat Ducato, he new vans are slightly larger han their predecessors. Gross myloads are up from 600 or 800kg 0625 or 850kg; load volume is up 0% to 3.3m3.
In line with the trend towards tronger bodies, the construction if the new models looks more ubstantial, particularly around he rear door aperture. This helps .ccount fora 150kg increase in kerb veight. GVW figures arc not yet ,nov,m, but the 850, at least, looks et to bust the 2,000kg marker to iperate at car speed limits.
As the 1.6HDi engine isrelatively Lew it's no surprise that drivelines re largely unchanged, with 4hp/185Nm and 89hp/215Nm on tap (with or without an I.AP diesel particulate filter) and fivespeed transmissions. There's a I.6-litre 89hp/132Nm petrol unit if you must, and the passenger versions also have a 107hp version of the 1.6HDi.
Specification is high. with a wide range of options including an off-road pack. tyre pressure sensors, manual or automatic aircon, up to six air bags, ESP, hill hold and Bluetooth.
Another option is a flexible seating arrangement which offers three seats for the first time in this sector, although the central seat is only designed for short periods. It also folds to create a desk top, extended flat floor or enlarged passenger footwell.
An optional on-board remote telematics system will be able to e-mail the fleet manager with routine maintenance information at preset intervals, as well as send real-time warnings about critical events such as oil pressure. coolant temperature and brake-pad wear. But we haven't seen the last of the old models yet.As the Berlingo First and Partner Origin, they will continue to provide the entry-level product as long as demand exists.
Exact UK prices and specifics for the new models are not yet known, but they will be exhibited at the NEC CV Show in April ahead of a June launch.
• Citroen has launched a quarterly programme of sales offers, kicking off with deals across its CV range. "[he C2 Enterprise starts at £6,795 (£19/week contract hire) while the Berlingo high-cube starts at £5,995 (£22/week contract hire).
Also on offer is the larger Dispatch, from £10,995 (£33/week contract hire) with the Relay from £12,495 (£43/week contract hire).
These prices apply to vehicles ordered and registered before 31 March 2008.
