• The Transport Development Group has merged two of its subsidiaries, Beck and Pollitzer and S and H Distribution, to form the largest distribution company within the group.

Operating as Beck and Pollitzer West Midlands, the company runs a fleet of more than 300 vehicles out of 25 depots. The merger has caused six redundancies in S and H's administrative department, says Beck and Pollitzer managing director Andrew Cardle. But no drivers' jobs will be lost.

The move was made to "complete the jigsaw in terms of our national distribution network", says Beck and Pollitzer marketing manager Andrew Hartley. S and H ran four depots in the West Midlands, with space for a further warehouse at one site. Hartley says that the company is talking to a number of potential customers about building a dedicated warehouse on the site.

Beck and Pollitzer runs dedicated and shared-user contracts, chiefly in the automotive and grocery sectors.
