than 15 years of hard work and about a million miles of safe driving behind me, I was appalled at last week's decision to scrap the normal hours law rules.
We have had to work damned hard to clear the backlog of work, especially from our Kent depot. The cost of the operation must have been enormous, but people only ever think of the cost to the company. What about the cost to the drivers?
I ended up worn out, driving for hours and hours over the limit last week. Road conditions were far from ideal and the chance of having an accident must have increased tenfold. It was a miracle I did not have an accident.
With millions of drivers on the dole, why didn't we give a few of them some extra work, and the rest of us a decent night's sleep?
