• Scania (Great Britain) managing director Anders Siewertz is to retire at the end of June. He will be succeeded by Anders Astrom, currently finance director and assistant general manager.
Siewertz joined Scania in Sweden in 1951, working in the export department before moving to head the company's Peruvian subsidiary. From there Siewertz moved to France to become the factory's representative, taking over as managing director of Scania (Great Britain) in 1975.
During Siewertz' term as managing director, Scania's British sales have grown from 722 vehicles (3.4% of the market) to 2,600 last year — almost 10% of the market.
Astrom joined Scania (Great Britain) in 1984 from Sanvik and Fagersta. Like Siewertz he has spent part of his career in South America, having been managing director of Fagersta's and Sanvik's subsidiaries in Brazil.
Siewertz says: "Anders and I have worked very closely together and I am sure that he will make a great success of running the company."
