• Plaxtons has replaced its Bustler single-decker bus body with a new model called the Derwent. Built on a welded-steel box-section frame, the Derwent can be specified on a variety of PSV chassis including Volvo, Leyland, Bedford and Scania.
Derwent bodies will be offered in lengths from 9.5 to 11,4 metres. All versions have a one-piece roof, along with GRP front and rear panels and aluminium side panels.
Up to 54 seats can be fitted in a typical 11.4 metre body mounted on a Volvo chassis. Prices for the Derwent start at around £21,680 ex-VAT.
In There is growing concern in Newcastle that the January 26 date on which operators can alter their services will see major congestion in the city, as an extra 19 buses are added to Tyne and Wear PTE's operations.
Newcastle Council's highways committee chairman, councillor Les Russell, warns that frustrated passengers have resorted to cars since deregulation affected bus services. He fears that the additional services will result in further congestion.
