• Peter Lane Transport is to provide facilities for Rowntree Mackintosh and Smiths Crisps at its depot at Feltham and Birmingham in a deal worth £60,000.
Rowntree Mackintosh is renting part of Lane's Feltham warehouse and will service the depot with trunker deliveries for onward distribution by Rowntree vehicles. The Lane Group will provide full facilities for the drivers, plus fuel and vehicle maintenance.
In Birmingham, Smiths Crisps will operate its van sales from Peter Lane's Smethwick, Warley, depot. The company's national sales manager and sales administration will be based in offices rented from the Lane Group, which will also provide warehousing, fuel and vehicle maintenance.
According to Peter Lane Transport sales manager Peter Angell, the move reflects the growing reluctance of many distribution companies to invest in their own facilities. He also sees the arrangement as a growth area.
