• The Lada Niva 4WD van, which was seen for the first time at the Birmingham Motor Show last year, is now available from selected Lada dealers as a special order for VI, 600 ex-VAT.
The 4x4 car-derived-van has a 63kW (85hp) 1.7 litre fourcylinder petrol engine, and a five-speed gearbox with permanent four-wheel-drive, high and low gear selection, and a differential lock.
The load bed has a plywood floor covering and bulkhead, and the payload is 300Kg. Its load volume is 1.32m3.
Lada is hoping that the Niva's success in tough events like the Paris-Dakar Rally, where it has finished second and third in previous years, will help create sales interest in the UK, although the company is not actively promoting the vehicle at the moment.
• Lodge Pennine, which emerged after Lodge Trailers went into liquidation last month, will in future build trailers at a new factory at Royton, Oldham.
The growing retro-fit work and "specials" construction will continue at the Aintree plant. Future plans include a new mini-artic suspension for light to medium weight CV chassis.
