OPERATORS are urged to bear in mind the following roadworks when planning their routes and are also reminded that in many areas roads are not being gritted, despite severe weather.

Scotland: Glasgow. The General Terminus Quay road is now closed until April while demolition work continues. A diversion and access to other quays is signposted.

A741. Extensive roadworks are taking place on the Renfrew Road, Paisley, and also on Paisley Road, Renfrew. This leads to delays on the nearby Ma Police patrols are in attendance for the duration of the work.

A75. Some delays are likely at Creetown Bridge, Dumfries and Galloway.

Northern England: The Four Bridges road link between Wallasey and Birkenhead in Wirral is expected to be reopened this month. Since the bridge has been closed there has been congestion at the two other road links across Birkenhead docks, Duke Street and Penny Bridge.

Midlands: Ml. Due to mining subsidence, a temporary lorry ban for vehicles over 32 tons, of more than 9ft 6in wide, has come into effect on a section of the M1 on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border. The ban is for vehicles between junction 29 (Heath) and 30 (Barlborough) and is aimed at minimising the danger to the public and to reduce the likelihood of damage to temporary overbridges which were installed last June. Vehicles affected by the ban which are travelling long distances can use the M1 (except for the affected area), M69, M6 or M62, as alternatives. There will be exemptions for emergency vehicles and those connected with repair and maintenance to the road.

Ml. Take care when travelling in the area of the Rothersthorpe and Watford Gap service area, as there are lane closures on both carriageways.

A428. Resurfacing work is in progress at Bretford River Bridge, Warwickshire, and long delays are likely as the local diversion is only being used occasionally.

Wales and the West: A31/35. Work on the Bere Regis by-pass between the top of Sitterton Hill and Town's End is scheduled for completion by June 1982.

M4. The London-bound carriageway restaurant is closed until May but drivers can still gain access to the westbound facilities by using the footbridge.

M4. Repairs to the Wye Bridge section of the Severn Bridge will start shortly. Repairs to expansion joints are necessary resulting in the removal of part of the road surface which will require lane closures. These will last for about three weeks in each direction and, in addition, a 30mph speed limit will be imposed.

Penzance: The Ross Swing Bridge is being rebuilt between now and April, and drivers are urged to use the Market Jew Street route as an alternative.

South-east England: Al. There are occasional closures between now and March due to the rebuilding of the Rowley Lane Flyover on the Barnet by-pass. Most are at weekends.

Dartford Tunnel traffic may be affected by road surfacing works which are being carried out at the Blue Star roundabout, Princes Road, Dartford. Due to reduced road widths' there may be congestion at peak times.

Ireland: Dublin: Major roadworks at Bachelor's Walk will result in diversions until May. There is at least one lane in use at all times.

International: All lorries using the Grand St Bernard Tunnel between Switzerland and Italy will need snowchains until April. Otherwise they may be refused entry. The customs post between Hungary and Austria at Sepron/Klingenbach is closed to goods vehicles until April 30.
