The Editor, THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR ' [2,657] Sir,—We noticed in a recent issue of The Commercial Motor a very interesting article regarding preference to be given on taxes for pneumatic-shod
heavy vehicles. As you know, we have given particular study to the pneumatic-tyre motor fire-engines for -the colonies. In New Zealand, to which country we have supplied a good many of these fire-engines on pneumatic tyres, there is, indeed, a preference of 20 per cent, on the licence if the lorries are shod with pneumatic tyres instead of solids.
This preference has been in force for a number of years; we believe to great advantage. Should your readers desire further information on the subject, no doubt the High Commissioner's office in the Strand, London, would be able to furnish it.
We thought it might be of interest for readers to know that the preference you are discussing has indeed been given in at least one of the colonies to
