Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A One Transport is offering its 200 drivers a lump-sum payment to encourage them to accept a truce after four months of wage negotiations.

The Leeds-based haulier is believed to have offered the drivers a one-off £100 payment to allow it to continue negotiating pay with their unions until 1 July. The drivers, who want a "no strings attached" £4 an hour, were considering the offer as CM went to press on Tuesday. They had threatened the possibility of balloting for industrial action last month. They gave the warning after the company refused to meet their demands for an increase of around 17p an hour, unless it could re-negotiate their supplementary payments.

If they have not reached an agreement by 1 July, the dispute could be re-submitted to conciliatory body ACAS, this time for a binding decision. Alternatively the drivers may decide to ballot for industrial action.
