Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ASTRONG appeal was launched last Saturday by Mr. W. E. Rootes, President of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, to the motor and road-transport industries and the motoring community generally, on behalf of the Comforts Funds of the Royal Army Service Corps and the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

Unlike most regimental units, these two Corps have no territorial connections With any particular district. It is for this reason, and because they are now so largely recruited from the motor and road-transport industries, that this appeal is made for comforts on their behalf. It is felt that the men on active service should be the especial care of the motoring community at home.

Generous gifts in cash and kind are urger.11y required, and will continue to be necessary, whilst offers of assistance from knitting groups, working parties, etc., will be warmly welcomed. It is suggested a'so that concerns which have already formed comforts funds within their organizations might consider whether they can help. The large numbers of men concerned and the constant growth will make extremely pressing demands upon the two Funds. Cash donations are particularly required, but gifts of the following articles are suggested:—Wireless sets (dry batteries), footballs, football outfits, dart boards and darts, woollen goods (Balaclava helmets, mittens and scarves), playing cards, books and periodicals, meat extracts, cafe au lait, cocoa, etc. No articles of clothing, except those mentioned, are required.

All conummications should be made to Colonel D. C. McLagan, D.S.O., Hobart House, Wilton Street, London, S.W.1, and parcels should be addressed to him, care of Comforts Funds, Kensington Palace Barracks, London, W.8, where a joint distribution centre has been set up.

The Presidents of the two funds are:—R.A.S.C., Major-General Sir Evan Gibb, K.B.E., and R.A.O.C., Major-General C. D. R. Watts, C.B., C.M.G. Each is supported by an impressive list of vice-presidents and a powerful executive council.
