The Super-Sentinel, hauling a terrific load, had stopped half-way up Porlock hill in order to work up a head of steam. There arrived on the scene a Ford tonner, said the driver of which: " Let me give you a tow up, mate!" " You tow me! " said the Super-Sentinel driver, with scorn. "Why, you couldn't take my water tank up the hill!" "Oh, that's all right," said the Ford driver. "Here, take a hitch with this rope! " The steamer and its load trailed to the top, the drivers both dismounted, the steam driver murmuring: "Well, I'm dashed! Say, mate, do you often take on jobs like that? And what's all that smoke under your old tub ? " " Streuth!" screamed the Ford driver, as he saw smoke and spurts of flame from his rear-wheel hubs. "Here have I had my side brakes on all the time!
