THE use of EEC logbooks, compulsory since October 31, will be strictly enforced from the end of this month.
DTp enforcement staff have been taking a lenient view of drivers who have not been filling them in according to the regulations because they were unaccustomed to this type of record, but this will end on December 31.
The Drivers' Hours (Keeping of Records) Regulations 1976 SI 1447 provided for the use of these records and the penalty for offences against the regulations, provided for in Section 99 of the Transport Act 1968, is a maximum fine of 000 on summary conviction, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years on conviction on indictment.
