Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Truck, Wagon

All this rotten weather gave The Hawk a good excuse to repair to the snug bar of The Mouse and Keyboard for an afternoon's light reading. Trucks of the Eighties (31imey, is that the past already?) by Colin Wright is a photographic record of the variety of trucks on British roads then.

There are 123 black and white and nine colour pictures accompanied by Wright's knowledgeable captions. The vehicles are presented in double-page spreads according to type.

Among the categories are curtainsiders, parcel carriers, brewery wagons, refrigerated vehicles, cement mixers, petrol and oil tankers. One section dedicated to American trucks on British roads features a Western Star rig, the Lady Louise, which was bought in Dallas, Texas, by Geoff Byford of Barrow, Suffolk, and named in memory of his daughter.

The fairground section would have benefited from being in colour to show off the painted vehicles at their best. In all, though, this is a valuable document giving a good account of trucks on the road In that period. What's more it is a snip at £9.95 plus postage and packing.

It is published by Paul Catchpole, The Old School House, Arrow, Alcester, Warwickshire 049 5PJ. Tel: 01789 766332.
