Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

call off strike

• Trent Motor Traction drivers called off a second one-day strike on Friday to allow further talks to take place on their pay claim. Earlier, they had rejected a 7.16% offer, calling for an increase to match the 8.3% inflation rate, and had staged a one-day strike on 11 August.

Trent commercial director Ian Morgan says that pay offers were not linked to inflation. "Last year inflation was 3.3%, but our regular drivers were awarded 6.3%. I don't think they would have been very pleased if we had used the inflation rate last year."

Trent management had insisted that the strike was called off before they would meet union representatives, and said no new money was available.
