IN A bid to increase British sales of its FTG twin-steer models by 20 per cent, Daf has sliced a third of a tonne off its unladen weight.
A new chassis sidemember .design gives a typical complete chassis cab weight saving of 350kg.
The old 6rnm thick main chassis sidemember, which had a small inner liner and a heavy top subframe, is replaced by a 310mm deep, 9min thick channel section member which is flitched to give a total frame depth of 314.5mm.
This compares with the old frame's depth of 340mm.
Rear overhang has also been Ted ii red OD the new chassis, by 170mtn to 79iimin, to give a greater margin for trailer swing clearance_ Standard tyres on the latest FTGs arc 11R22.5 radials.
