A GOVERNMENT Minister and the top Department of Transport civil servant are to speak at separate major bus industry conferences nextmonth.
Junior Transport Minister David Mitchell speaks at a one-day.conference on coping with competition which is sponsored by Transport Research and Consultancy Briefing and is being held in London on September 25. Other speakers are DTp special advisers Malcolm Buchanan (on competitive activity) and Jim Steer (on tenders), former National Bus director Brian Barrett (now with Trusthouse Forte), and London airports shared taxi proprietor Bill Shea of Airliner.

The Transport Bill is also top of the agenda at the Bus and Coach Council's conference at Eastbourne on September 18 and 19, where DTp Permanent Secretary Sir Peter Lazarus is one of the main speakers.
American deregulation expert Dr Alfred Kahm and the Office of Fair Trading's James Octon are also to speak.
