John C. Brownhill, 36, has been appointed service manager of Scania (Great Britain) Ltd. He succeeds G.L.G. Clarke who has been appointed group service manager of Unit Commercials Ltd. of Salisbury. Mr Brownhill is leaving Chrysler (UK) Ltd where he has been manager, truck development, since 1968.

Arthur Mischke, head of the Daimler-Benz commercial vehicle test department, is to succeed Dr Ing Alfred Muller-Berner, who is retiring in October, as head of the commercial vehicle development division. Mr Mischke is succeeded by Ernst Gehring, previously head of assembly unit testing. Gerhard Wolters is responsible for all engine development of commercial vehicles and Adolf Steiner for the design of running gear and superstructure.

Ernest S. Woodiwiss, who was made a director of A. E. Edmunds Walker Ltd last May, has now been appointed sales director. In addition Mr Woodiwiss continues to head the Bearings and Industrial Product Division.

Brian Alcock has been appointed York Trailer Co Ltd sales office manager at the company's Corby trailer sales office. Mr Alcock was formerly marketing statistician at York's Northallerton trailer and container plant.

Peter Gyde, 36, has been appointed sales engineer of the automotive division of Precision Screw & Mfg Co Ltd, Longacres, VVillenhall. Staffs, and will handle its range of self-locking screws and fastener products for sheet metal and plastics.

Obituaries

We record with regret the deaths of Robert Hanson and Jack Harper.

Mr Henson. 81, was chairman and managing director of the Hanson Transport Group Ltd. Until Hanson Haulage Ltd was nationalized in 1946, he held similar positions with that company. He founded the Jet Petroleum Company. was a Freeman of the City of London, and received the CBE in 1970. During World War 2 he was appointed by the Government as divisional road haulage officer for the North East of England.

Mr Harper, 56, was sales director of the Primrose Group. He had been unwell since his return from a sales visit to Pakistan three months ago.
