WEregret to record the deaths of Mr. William Morpus and Mr. S. B. Reece.

Founder and for many years governing director of Rossie Motors (Rossington), Ltd., bus and coach proprietors, Rossington, Yorks, Mr. Morpus, of Coxley Cottage, Rossington, died at the age of 72 in Doncaster Royal Infirmary following a long illness.

Mr. Reece. a pioneer of the Liverpool motor industry and chairman of J. Blake and Co.. Ltd., motor agents, who died at his home in Wootton last week, was 64.

Newcastle's Profit •

DURING the year ended March 31, 1962, the transport undertaking of Newcastle upon Tyne City Council made a net profit of £200,015, compared with £107,474 the previous year. The number of passengers carried fell by as many as 4m. During the past three years, passenger traffic has fallen by 9m., and mileage has also been reduced. Mr. F, S. Taylor, manager of the department. said that higher fares had brought about the increased profits.

FEWER HEAVY-GOODS ACCIDENTS: MORE LIGHT-GOODS

I N the Metropolitan Police District in 1961, there were 31.2% more light goods vehicles and 5.7",', more P.S.V.s involved in accidents than in 1960. This was revealed in the statistical analysis of road accidents published by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, New Scotland Yard, last week.

However, the accident figures referring

to goods vehicles over tons were of a much happier character.

In 1961, goods vehicles over 1-: tons but not over 3 tons were involved in 40.1% fewer accidents than in 1960. and goods vehicles over 3 tons were involved in 7.3% fewer accidents than in 1960.
